Happy New Year

We rang in the new year by watching Julie and Julia and at midnight we drank some sparkling cider and watched the fireworks our neighbor was lighting off.

That was fun, but Yesterday, Jan 01, is our youngest's birthday.  She was born at 5:36am on Jan 1 2005.  Unfortunately for her, she was also 15 weeks premature.  She's had a lot of struggles to overcome, but finally, we got together and got her a big girl bed. She is 5 now and has been in a toddler bed since she was born, really.  Her crib converted to a toddler bed which she has been sleeping on for a while.  It also converts into a Full Headboard and day bed, so that's what we did.

For her birthday, we went to the theater to see The Princess and the Frog with the entire family.  It was a wonderful movie and Bubbles liked it very much.  Well, when we drove into the parking lot, we saw a mattress store with a huge grand opening sign in the window.  So after the movie we popped in and bought her a full bed for her room.  Then, after we got it home. we dropped by Wal*mart to get linens for it and last night she slept in it! She loved it so much that she didn't want to get up this morning. It was cute.

So, I want to talk a little about the new year for a moment.  First, today is an exciting day because the date is a palendrome.  Today is 01022010.  pretty cool eh? Now onto more pressing matters.

First, to all those who keep broadcasting that this year is the beginning of a new decade, boy have you got your lines crossed.  The 10th year is the LAST year of the decade, not the first year of the next.  This is because there was no year 0.  It went from 1BC to 1AD.  so, the first decade ended on December 31, year 10, the first day of the next decade was year 11.  Fast forward a couple thousand and the last day of this decade is Dec 31, 2010.  So please stop wishing me a happy new decade.

Second, New Years Resolutions bother me.  First, every day is the start of a new year, Second, you won't know when you're going to expire, so you have no idea when the first day of your last year starts, and finally, no one ever keeps a "New Year's Resolution".  Ok, last year, I kept mine, but I made a resolution I knew I could keep.  Last year's resolution was "I will not drink more than 5 sodas a day."  and I kept it.  Notice, I didn't say 5 cans of soda. so as long as I didn't serve myself more than 5 a day I was good.  And to the best of my knowledge, I kept it.  So, here's my take on Resolutions.  If you're going to make a resolution, Make one you know you'll be able to keep, and if it's going to be hard to keep (like the infamous weight-loss resolution), stop calling it a resolution and call it a goal.

That's enough of my ranting today.  Thanks for reading.
